Results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise

The results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise were released on 18 December 2008. Quality profiles for all units of assessment can be found on the RAE website at:

http://www.rae.ac.uk/

We are delighted to note that the 2008 RAE confirms Oxford’s position as a preeminent centre of Philosophy. The results show that in Philosophy Oxford had more than twice as much research activity at the highest quality level as any other department in the UK. The amount is the figure for FTE Category A staff submitted times the percentage of research activity at quality level 4*, the highest used in the 2008 RAE; it denotes research ‘that is world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour’.
