New Appointments 2012

The Oxford Philosophy Faculty is delighted to announce three new appointments.

Ralf Bader has been appointed as CUF Lecturer and Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy at Merton College, with effect from October 2012. Dr Bader is currently Bersoff Assistant Professor and Faculty Fellow in the Philosophy Department at New York University. His research primarily focuses on value theory, metaphysics, and Kant’s theoretical and practical philosophy. He is also interested in political philosophy and neo-Kantian and early analytic philosophy. Dr Bader received his Ph.D. and M.Litt. from the University of St Andrews, and before that read PPE at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.

Susanne Bobzien has been elected as a Senior Research Fellow of All Souls College, with effect from October 2012. Professor Bobzien was Fellow and Tutor at Queen’s College, Oxford until 2002. Since then she has been a Professor and Senior Research Scholar at Yale University. Her areas of research include philosophy of logic, philosophy of language, ancient philosophy, determinism and freedom. She is the author of Determinism and Freedom in Stoic Philosophy (1998, OUP); Die stoische Modallogik (1986, Würzburg: Königshausen und Neumann); and Alexander of Aphrodisias: On Aristotle Prior Analytics I.1-7 (with J. Barnes, K. Flannery, K. Ierodiakonou) (1991, London: Duckworth).

Jeffrey Ketland has been appointed as CUF Lecturer and Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy at Pembroke College, with effect from September 2012. Dr Ketland is currently Assistant Professor / Scientific Coordinator at the Munich Centre for Mathematical Philosophy. His main research interests are in logic, philosophy of logic and mathematics, philosophy of science, philosophy of language and metaphysics; he also has an interest in topics in formal epistemology and philosophy of physics. Before moving to Munich, he held a Senior Lectureship in Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. He obtained a PhD in Philosophy from the London School of Economics.
