New Appointments

The Oxford Philosophy Faculty is delighted to announce the following new appointments:

Dr Cian Dorr will take up the post of Senior Faculty Lecturer in Philosophy with effect from 1 July 2008. Dr Dorr is currently an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh. He specialises in metaphysics and philosophy of language and will join a large and distinguished group of philosophers in Oxford working in those areas, including new appointees Frank Arntzenius, John Hawthorne, Ofra Magidor, and Scott Sturgeon.

Dr Jessica Moss will take up the post of Titular CUF Lecturer in Philosophy in association with a Tutorial Fellowship at Balliol College with effect from 1 July 2008. Dr Moss is currently an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, specialising in Ancient Philosophy. Her appointment further strengthens Oxford’s position as one of the top faculties in the world for the study of ancient philosophy. Prospective graduate students with an interest in this area should note that the Faculty has recently established a new one-year Master of Studies course in Ancient Philosophy.

Dr Joseph K. Schear will take up the post of Titular CUF Lecturer in Philosophy in association with a Tutorial Fellowship at Christ Church with effect from 1 September 2008. Dr Schear is currently an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo; he specialises in 20th Century European philosophy and philosophy of mind. Dr Schear’s appointment strengthens the Faculty’s existing group of distinguished scholars with research interests in Kant and post-Kantian philosophy, including Michael Inwood, Adrian Moore, Katherine Morris, Stephen Mulhall, and Ralph Walker.
